Nether Quartz is an ore currently only found in the Nether. When mined by any pickaxe, it drops Nether Quartz, which can be used to craft a Daylight Sensor, Redstone Comparator or a block of Quartz. This ore can be mined in its original form in Survival through the use of the Silk Touch Enchantment. This block is about as common as iron in the real world. So far, these are the only uses as of Minecraft 1.5.
In some cases, this can be as hard to collect as Glowstone due to it spawning in the ceiling, and as easy to get as Soul Sand when it spawns on the ground. Unlike other storage blocks, quartz crystals cannot be retrieved from their block, so use them only for building.
Strangely, nether quartz has a blast resistance of 15, even though the durability of quartz blocks and netherrack are both under 5. Also, flames do not last on nether quartz ore, probably due to its quartz content.
Like Emerald and Lapis Lazuli Ores, these ores have a different pattern across them. Emerald has chunky green gems, lapis lazuli has what look like splats of pixelated blue, and nether quartz looks like white stripes.
